We have a two different environments of CA DLP. One is standalone and the other is a cluster. We want to move the clients from standalone to cluster. Have any body done this.
Thanks in advance.
I am assuming a full featured Standalone (not restricted), in which case it is effectively just another CMS.
To move clients you can use the wgnreparent utility, Help extract below:
WgnReparent.exe allows administrators to move machines between parents (gateway servers or the CMS, within the same or different hierarchies). If you move a machine to a new CMS infrastructure, you are prompted for confirmation. Typical examples are shown below:
WgnReparent -all -show
WgnReparent -show MACHINE1 MACHINE2 MACHINE3
WgnReparent -parent NEW_PARENT MACHINE1 MACHINE2 MACHINE3
WgnReparent -parent NEW_PARENT
WgnReparent -parent NEW_PARENT -children GATEWAY
Note: To use this utility to reparent a child machine to a parent in a different hierarchy, you must be a local administrator on the client machine or CMS.
Thanks for the reply.
We have tried this but after moving the client, the status of the client is not running and the machine state is inaccessible, below is the error while resuming the client...
Code: 0xe563f204Description: Unable to communicate with parent server. There may be a network or configuration problem. (ConnectionManager::CreateClient Error: Can't create instance - InvocationTargetException:user.UserServicesClient: Lookup failure: Could not connect)
On the face of it, it appears that this is a connectivity or network issue and i would not like to assume anything, so as the error suggests...
The client may be in another domain or group without access to the server. Can the client see the server? Ping tests, name resolution, permissions etc?
I would suggest you need the same the other way around, can the server also see the clients?
Thanks for the reply. Will check the connectivity and let u know.
Vijoo, The re-parent utility noted above works only in really select circumstances. Personally, I've only gotten it to work properly within the same infrastructure.
If needed, I can provide you with a utility which can do your exact use case if this is a common operation. Let me know if you are interested.
