  • 1.  SQL probe configuration

    Posted Oct 26, 2016 05:41 AM

    Hi,

We have around 50 plus SQL servers in our environment.

We have configured sqlserver  probe configuration in CA UIM monitoring tool on one of the SQL server.

So can we apply this same configuration on rest of the servers without manually configuring on each servers.

    Please give your suggestions.

    Thanks

    Hi Ayush,

I believe you can do the testing of below steps first in DEV environment and then deploy in production.

Steps1: Create one profile and template properly and do the testing.

Step 2 : Take the configuration backup of this profile with any name you like.

Step 3 : Deploy this profile on another server and edit the profile and change the server name / ip address you mentioned accordingly.

Step 4 : Repeat Step 3 for other servers if everthing looks fine.

    I Hope this will work.

    Regards,

    Imran Khan

    Thanks for the guide.

Creation of profile is done .Testing is also done.
How to deploy the profile on other servers.
It's not mentioned in the guide clearly.

Can any one please help me out in deploying a sql profile on the rest of sql servers.
How to reflect the same profile on all servers.

    Thanks.

Try the steps mentioned in the first reply or do the manual configuration on all the servers OR raise a case with suport for assistance.

    Hi Ayush,

You can install sqlserver probe on any robot to monitor a remote or local (recommended) instance of Microsoft SQL Server database.

    1.  You can configure all the instance of Microsoft SQL Server database to single sqlserver probe means from one server you can monitor all DB server instances.

    2.  You can configure on each database server, means you need to deploy sqlserver probe on each DB server.

In case of 2 scenario :

You can try as follows -

    1. Configure sqlserver probe on one of the system along with all your DB monitoring metrics.

    2. Once everything is configured as per monitoring, copy sqlserver probe to archive and select configuration only and rename the package name from sqlserver to your required name [sqlserverXXXX].

This will create configuration from the sqlserver probe only.

    3. Deploy sqlserver probe on each DB server.

    4. Once sqlserver probe is deployed on each server, then deploy your sqlserver [sqlserverXXXX] configuration on each DB server.

    5. Go to each DB server and update the instance name or credentials as per DB server to respective sqlserver probe. Other metrics details will be automatically updated from your configuration [sqlserverXXXX].

[We cannot avoid the step 5.]

    Hi,

In step 2 you have told to " copy sqlserver probe to archive ".
Can you please explain how to copy in Admin Console.
I am unable to export the configuration file.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ayush,

I have never tried from AC, I do drag [configured probe] and drop to archive from IM.
