  • 1.  Can we integrate NFA console(https) with UIM?

    Posted Dec 06, 2016 09:28 PM

    Hi All,

From the wiki doc, it only mention that nfa_inventory probe can connect to NFA console via http. What happen if I setup NFA console in https, can nfa_inventory probe connect to NFA console?

I open the case for this, CA Support mentioned that it is not their scope to answer my question. Customer is very unhappy with the answer from CA Support. What happens if we test it out and we are not able to integrate, by right CA Support still have to help us right? Very disappointing with CA Support right now

Currently the integration must be done over http port 80.  I would recommend opening an Idea here as an enhancement request to support the integration over https.

    Hi Christopher_Walsh

Does it mean that we cannot enable https on ADA console if we want to integrate UIM and ADA console?

If the ADA console's IIS bindings still allow connections on http port 80 I believe it should work.  This post was about the nfa_inventory probe, the ada probe may be different.

It looks like the ADA probe also requires access to http on port 80 just like NFA does.

ada_inventory AC Configuration - CA Unified Infrastructure Management Probes - CA Technologies Documentation

However, as with NFA you can configure IIS to use both http/port 80 and https/port 443, in IIS bindings.

Then you can have the Single Sign On settings, which controls the login page, set to only use HTTPS so the login page will require https, on port 8382, but other pages can load in either http or https.  However if a user logs in with https the broswer will stay in https unless someone manually changes it to http.

This would allow NFA and ADA to allow connections from the UIM ada_inventory and nfa_inventory probes over port 80, but force users to login to nfa/ada with https.

Here is the link for the nfa_inventory probe:

nfa_inventory AC Configuration - CA Unified Infrastructure Management Probes - CA Technologies Documentation

    Which states the following:

    • The robot on which the nfa_inventory probe is deployed has http access (port 80/TCP) to the CA NFA console.
    • The wasp probe on the UMP host has http access (port 80/TCP) to the CA NFA console.

I would definitely recommend opening an enhancement request here by creating an Idea.  There were a number of https enhancements in NFA 9.3.6 which was just released, but it doesn't look like they added https for the UIM integration.
