Does anyone know of any software that would "mask" sensitive data within a non-SQL IDMS database (in accordance with HIPAA laws)?

The sensitive (personal) data is being used a part od System-Owned index keys as well as for CALC keys, so standard compression routines (IDMSCOMP/DCOM and PressPack) couldn't be utilized. Another corollary issue is that this "masking" needs to be consistent across multiple platforms - client-server databases as well as mainframe.

Al,  I'm not sure if you saw this earlier thread:

Database Encyrption at rest - looking for techniques (ie database procedures), experiences, good and bad.

I don't think you would be able to develop a consistent approach for each platform.  Each DBMS will have it's own issues.
