  • 1.  Clearing Duplicate Logon Sessions to SDM

Does anyone know of a way to clear duplicate logon sessions from the same user to Service Desk Manager?  We have single sign-on enabled and have a logon timeout set to 30 minutes.  When users restart their web browser, it generates a new session for the same user.  The old session sticks around until the end of the 30 minutes.  We would prefer to have SDM either clear the previous session or re-use the previous session.  Any ideas?

    Hi Scott,

Currently there is no mechanism to manually force-clear all sessions.  The reason is because it wouldnt know which ones are active and which ones are not.  Hence the timeout setting.   It should not cause any issues having the extra sessions since your timeout is set to 30 mins.  So they wont stick around too long.  Is there any effects of those sessions that you are seeing?

    Jon,

We do occasionally see delays between the application and database servers.  Our users tend to get inpatient and will restart their browser session from scratch, resulting in the same person have 2 to 3 sessions open (2 stale and 1 active).  Not sure if all the stale sessions are contributing to the delays.

    Hi Scott,

Presently there is no easy or rather OOTB mechanism to kill\end unused web sessions. This has been a hot topic for a while and I have seen this query being raised a few times on this forum.

I am aware of a few Ideas (Enhancement Requests) for this feature which you can vote for:

Identify and Terminate Web User Sessions

In this other Idea (Manually kill or end user session ) someone suggested a basic script that can be used to end (logout) web sessions. Maybe this can work for you to clear unused sessions, but you will need to build the logic that meets your requirement in terms of identifying the duplicate sessions and leave the most recent session still running.

    Kind Regards,

    Brian
