Tech Tip from Pat O'Brien, Principal Support Engineer for December 28, 2016

Did you know that CA Datacom Version 15.0 has a new feature VIRTUAL_DYNAMIC_EXTEND that allows for dynamically extending any virtual database while the Datacom MUF is up?

See CA Datacom® Core - 15.1 “Extending Virtual Database Areas” in section ”New and Enhanced Features for 15.0”:

“… Using a console-like command, you can change the VIRTUAL dynamic extension options while the MUF is enabled. The command is VIRTUAL_DYNAMIC_EXTEND dbid,area,extend-size,extend-count (see VIRTUAL_DYNAMIC_EXTEND in MUF Startup Options and Console/Console-Like Commands). …”

Given that the VIRTUAL_DYNAMIC_EXTEND command only sets/modifies the parameters for the dynamic extend of a virtual database (it does not immediately perform that dynamic extend) is there a reason why this command is not allowed as a MUF start-up parameter? It seems daft to have to reset these parameters with a separate job after each MUF restart.
