Do new defects inherit the iteration and/or release of their parent story?

We have a story that is assigned to an iteration and a release. During testing for that story, defects are created. Does each new defect inherit the iteration and/or release of the parent story, or are these fields empty. Does this change, depending on how or where the defect is created?

I think the new defect does *not* inherit the iteration or release of the parent story, but I wanted to confirm that. When the new defect has a blank iteration and release, then it appears in the backlog, and this is somewhat confusing. Our team is looking for the best way to keep these short-term work-in-progress defects from appearing unnecessarily in the backlog.

Hello! You are correct, the defect does not inherit the release and iteration of the story, and there isn't a way to currently make it do so. If you'd like to propose the product do so, please add your idea to our Idea Manager at https://ideas.rallydev.com. I didn't see the idea in there, although there is a similar idea https://ideas.rallydev.com/ideas/D3964 that you could also vote on.
