  • 1.  MSP XML Interface Actual Hours Incorrect

Comparing XML version of MSP Interface to Legacy version.  Exporting to Legacy version, actual hours in MSP match those in CA PPM.

However, when exporting to XML version, any resources with zero Actuals (Right side of pic) have really high Actual Hours (3008 to 8424 hrs, left side of Pic) in reported in MSP.

    Using MSP2010.

What is the current state of the XML interface?  Are there any setup/prerequisites that must be run before using it?

Thinking that I can remove all resources from tasks where Actual Hours = zero, the reassign them if necessary.

Also, this same project takes almost twice as long to open in the XML version vs. legacy version.

So, next question is, should I even bother with the XML version?  Or, if I can fix the actual hours problem, would the XML version then start running faster than the legacy version?

Have corrected issue by removing resources with 0 actual hours, exporting to MSP, saving back then reallocating same resources back to project.

Don't know root cause and haven't yet replicated.

    Hi Dale,

What version of PPM are you on? If you are on 14.2, there is one defect that could cause the symptoms you describe: https://www.ca.com/us/services-support/ca-support/ca-support-online/knowledge-base-articles.TEC1832839.html

Regarding the slower performance you see in the XML, there was some known issues that were fixed in a Microsoft Project update, but the update isn't supported until 14.4 and higher with the new driver only. If you are on this configuration and still see the slower performance, let me know.

Also, regarding your questions on the setup of the xml Interface, the main thing is to make sure that you have the supported Microsoft Project Update installed. If 14.3 and lower, then you'll want no Microsoft Project Updates, but if 14.4 or higher and new driver, here's a link to the supported Microsoft Project Updates (you'll want one of these installed to prevent data issues and help with performance)

Here's the link to the KB regarding supported Microsoft Project Updates for 14.4 MSP new driver and higher: https://www.ca.com/us/services-support/ca-support/ca-support-online/knowledge-base-articles.tec1830355.html

Also, regarding setup of the new driver, here's a link to the initial configuration (This part also applies to the legacy driver as well): Synchronization with Microsoft Project - CA PPM - 15.2 - CA Technologies Documentation

Thanks Kristin,  the information, links you supplied are sufficient to answer our question.  We are upgrading to 15.2 - have system running now.  While waiting for MSP2016 funding, was asked if we could make MSP2010 last a bit longer.

Have our answer, now.  With legacy version, yes, though completely unsupported (we fully understand what this means).  With XML version, absolutely not - upgrade MSP or go home.

    Thank you!
