CA Service Catalog integration with CA Service desk request

Our client have in production environment a SD 14.1 platform. In that platform they have implemented the requests in a way that they use those requests as service catalog request.

We want to implement CA Service Catalog, and move the request from CA SD to CA sevice catalog, but I have questions about the integration between those two platforms, in the way that for example the request in SD and the services in SC share the same approval workflow and the same requesters groups.

In a more general way, my question is, how is performed the integration between CA SD and CA CS?, is it only throught IT PAM, or it could be deeply?, could you provide me with some use case scenarios of that integration?.
