Moving CI Classes Between Families with Different Extension Tables

  • 1.  Moving CI Classes Between Families with Different Extension Tables

We have had some CI Classes in inappropriate Families and we want to move them to different Families. In some cases the old and new Families have different Extension tables.

We are looking at trying something like:

    • For existing CI's, create a row in the appropriate Extension table for the new Family with attributes set from the existing Extension row (where available). We were thinking of doing this at the SQL Server level.
    • Update the Class definitions to the new Families
    • Restart CASDM

Would people expect his to work?

Later on we might clean-up the old rows from the Extension tables.

Note that we are using r12.6.

    Thanks,

    Hi Alan,

Just to note first, 12.6 was dropped from support over 2 years ago, so it is no longer supported by CA at this time.  I would highly recommend that you upgrade to a currently supported release of the product (R14.1.03, or R17.0).   That said, We never recommend editing data at the SQL level because we cannot support that, and it could lead to problems that we will not be able to assist with.  There are reasons (ITIL related) as to why certain families/classes have certain extension tables, and not others.  That is by design.  You could try to test this out in a test environment to see if it would work for you, but again its not something we can support.

    Regards,

    Jon I.
