  • 1.  Need clarifications on license usage

    Hi Team,

we request your answers for the below question as we don't find any reference / answers in the documentation

    1) DevTest 9.0 – What type of license is consumed for REST Invoke API calls? is it Runtime license?

    2) Does DevTest 9.0 adjust the license usage automatically depending on the permissions we increase/decrease for a role?

    Regards,

    Balamurugan.

Here are the responses to you queries.

    1)    DevTest 9.0 – What type of license is consumed for REST Invoke API calls? is it Runtime license?

As a consumer it utilizes Runtime User license. For instance, if you are invoking  REST API calls from a CI process its considered runtime license consumption.

    2)    Does DevTest 9.0 adjust the license usage automatically depending on the permissions we increase/decrease for a role?

Yes the ACL controls the license in use. It's better to not assign multiple roles to a user to avoid confusion. The "highest" user type takes precedence overall all lower user types.

    Hi Ashutosh.Satyam

    Thanks for your response.

    1) In DevTest 9.0 we have given the "Runtime" role to the user when we extracted the report from ED after 1hr we have noticed the same user reported under SVT_RUNTIME_USER & PF_POWER_USER role type. due to this our concurrency limit of PF_POWER_USER shows increased. Kindly confirm is this expected behaviour?

DevTest uses Role based access control ( User --> Roles --> Permissions ).  So Permissions assigned eventually controls the User Type.

It’s likely the Runtime role is associated with permissions of Pathfinder Power User (PFP). Go ahead an uncheck that permission for this Runtime role.

This should mostly resolve the issue.

    Hi Ashutosh.Satyam,

    Thanks for your response.

    In DevTest 9.0

What User Role to assign for CA DevTest Runtime User. for example if we bought the license for CA DevTest Runtime User (10 Concurrent Users)  (FKA CA LISA Service Virtualization Runtime User x8) (FKA CA LISA Pathfinder Runtime User x2).

    Thanks,

    Balamurugan.

The Runtime User is by default associated to Runtime role.

By default  Runtime role seems to be associated to these three permissions.

    -          Pathfinder Power User (PFP)

    -          Runtime User (R)

    -          Administration User (A)

Edit the Runtime role to have only single permission.

    -          Runtime User (R)

As per your recommendation I have unchecked Pathfinder Power User (PFP) & Administration User (A) permissions and given only Runtime User (R)

Now with Runtime Role users not able to access any reports in DevTest Console / DevTest Portal also not able to start/stop Virtual Service. But all these permission are listed Runtime User(R ).

    version: DevTest9.0

    Balamurugan.

    Hi Team,

The Runtime/SV Power users does not have access to VSE metrics reports. it is the defect with DevTest 9.0. we have raised the support ticket with CA and got the patch for this issue.
