As we continue our behind-the-scenes documentation platform migration activities, in order to bring you new features, we will be changing the way the docops search feature behaves for all SaaS and on-premise editions of the CA PPM documentation available at https://docops.ca.com/ppmod and https://docops.ca.com/ppmop.

Current (Old as of Nov 1, 2017) Search Behavior:

Previous editions of the documentation attempted a natural language search and displayed results with counts in parentheses that included related content and an aggregate list of all results. For example:

    • All Results (10)
    • Documentation (5)
    • Community (2)
    • Knowledge Base (3)

Users could direct their refined searches based on one of these content areas and could apply other filters.

During the month of October 2017, we will be phasing out the old search behavior and reverting to the same standard search shared by all other CA product documentation sets.

New Search Behavior (by November 1, 2017):

The documentation search feature is constrained to only CA PPM documentation. Related content is no longer included; however, users can still find this content just a click away.

Tip: To narrow the doc search results, enclose your search string in quotation marks. For example, a search on Release Notes includes over 290 entries. A search on "Release Notes" where you enter the quotes around your search terms includes only 25. A search on Studio NSQL returns over 112 results (good, but still too many results). A search on "Studio NSQL" returns only two results (better).

Without quotes, your search is Boolean in nature; with quotes, your input strings constrain the query. In other words, a search on Studio NSQL is really a search on Studio OR NSQL while a search on "Studio NSQL" is really a search for pages with the exact sequence of characters as typed. You can also enter "Studio AND NSQL" to find only pages with both strings Studio AND NSQL. It takes some getting used to, but can often save you time finding the exact information you need.

    Additional Suggestions:

    • To search for content in the CA PPM community forums, see CA PPM Online Community
    • To search for KB articles, see CA PPM Knowledge Base.
    • To search using Google, Bing, and other search engines, include a prefix to qualify your search. For example, enter "CA PPM 14.4 <specific search terms>" or "CA PPM 15.3 SaaS <specific search terms>." You don't need to enter quotes unless you want to find an exact sequence of characters as entered.

    Details:

We were delighted to bring you the dynamic search functionality; however, we decided to revert for several reasons. Some customers observed that the documentation pages did not rank as high as other content and others found the results did not always align with their expectations. We continue to examine search engine optimization best practices and new search technology as the product documentation platform evolves.

We hope you continue to enjoy CA PPM and other CA products including their related documentation, search, support information, community content, and other features.
