Why is flowdock not showing emojis or gifs properly in High Sierra?

I'm running Mac OS High Sierra 10.13, and flowdock 1.2.9 (35), and when some of the emoticons or external gifs are posted in a chat, flowdock doesn't display them properly.  I've checked for updates for both the OS and flowdock and the situation isn't resolving.  This has been occurring for the past week or so.  I can copy and paste the symbols into word or another text editor and they show up correctly.  I can see the symbols such as ":+1:" in the pick list and can insert them into the flow.  Others see the symbols properly, but my system doesn't.

Please see a screen shot from today and let me know what I need to do to fix it up.
