I want to have a test plan view in which i can filter test cases by "Release"...I don't see this option available and cannot believe no one has complained or asked for it before.
It is torturous to manage test cases without this option.
Test Cases are not associated with Release time boxes. They can be parented to User Stories or Defects assigned to Releases. Test Cases can also be part of a Test Set, which can be assigned to a Release. Try creating a custom page with a Custom List app. On the Custom List app, choose User Story, Defect or Test Set and then select Test Case and Release in the column chooser to see Test Cases and Releases.
Hi Tia, The reason you cannot filter the Test Plan page by Release is because Test Cases and Test Folders are not schedulable into timeboxes so that value does not exist in their filter options. You have to do this action via Test Sets, which you schedule into an iteration, release or milestone and assign Test Cases to them. A Test Case can live in multiple Test Sets across multiple timeboxes. You can see Test Sets on the Iteration Status page, Release Status page or Work Views. You can then filter Test Sets by release.
I think these options will give you what you are looking for. Hope this helps!
No that does not help me as we are not that advanced at my organization nor
have the time create test sets...
