  • 1.  How to monitor different CPU Threshold values on a single device

    Posted Nov 06, 2017 02:47 AM

    Hi Support,

I would like to set the threshold values for cpu utilization with below values.

If the cpu utilization is exceeding 45% , we need the Minor alarm.

If the CPU utilization exceeds 55% , we need the Major Alarm.

If the CPU utilization exceeds 60% , we need the Critical Alarm.

For this We have created 3 different watches, we are able to get the alarms . But we are getting 2 alarms on Each device instaed of one alarm.

Also these devices are in a GC , so we have created one Policy on the GC  to make watches active all the time by following below guide:

    https://support.ca.com/us/knowledge-base-articles.TEC1602316.html

After this We are facing issue, threshold alarms got triggering on all servers in this group even though , device is consuming below the threshold value.

Please suggest us how to achieve this task.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Siva.

    Hi Siva,

Could you provide the Cause Code of those two alarms (from the Alarms TAB)?

    Thanks,

    Silvio

    Dear Sir,

    0x5270000---WATCH THRESHOLD VIOLATED

    0x480014----CPU UTILAIZATION EXCEEDS 45%

OOB (Out Of the Box) there is no  0x5270000 and 0x480014 Cause Codes. It looks like you have customized the 0x5270000 and 0x480014 event codes to generate alarms.

As you want to achieve these rules below:

If the CPU utilization is exceeding 45% , we need the Minor alarm.

If the CPU utilization exceeds 55% , we need the Major Alarm.

If the CPU utilization exceeds 60% , we need the Critical Alarm.

I would suggest to select Generate Event(s) instead of  Generate Alarm option in the Threshold TAB.

So when a Major alarm is asserted, it should also clear the Minor alarm, and when the Critical alarm is asserted, it should also clear the Major alarm.

    Thanks,

    Silvio
