Overview

We have released exciting functionality for milestones to all SaaS customers. This update includes:

1. The ability to associate individual projects with a milestone
2. Better handling of milestones when a project is moved within the project hierarchy

Assigning specific projects

With our latest enhancements, customers may now associate projects from different branches of the project tree with a single milestone. This is important because it allows you to more specifically target milestones to the projects for which the milestone is relevant, reducing clutter and improving clarity.

The new project control allows customers to choose specific projects, projects and their children or all projects in a workspace. The new control also supports search which makes it easy to find the project that you are seeking.

Reparenting projects

We have updated the behavior of milestones related to reparenting of projects within the project hierarchy. Now, when a project is parented to a different branch of the project hierarchy, any related milestones move with the original project. In the past, reparenting of projects would convert a project milestone to a workspace milestone, making is accessible to all projects in the workspace.

These enhancements should help ensure that milestones are only available to the project teams that are participating in the milestone. This will make milestones easier to use and more effective.

thx, just noticed this in the milestone canvas GUI. long-term, is AC's product owner ever going to change the word "projects" to 'teams"? I understand the word "project" here to be a legacy term and 'team' is the new terminology. just curious about the plans for that. 

With this enhancement, I am curious about how the existing Milestone reporting will work.  I have Project (portfolio) areas that share milestone dates but would like to see their milestone reporting (e.g. milestone burnup) separated for only their Project area.  Do we need to set up separate milestones for each portfolio area?  Or can we share the milestones and count on the reporting to only report on items in the milestones within the selected Project hierarchy?
