I am trying to upgrade CA PAM 2.8.4 to 3.0 version, with every prerequisites fulfilled.
But I'm getting error message:
Please help with some explanation, because in documentation I don't see any limitations for upgrade from 2.8.3 or greater to version 3.0.0.
Please open a support ticket and include the screenshot, and we can check what is the best the solution with Engineering. You will not be alone. Others will want to go from 2.8.4 to 3.0 as well.
the issue here that 2.8.4 is released after 3.0 (and 3.0.1) released (it was released couple days ago),, so the package 3.x does not know anything about 2.8.4 .. same for the documentation
Best way in my opinion you need to downgrade to 2.8.3 then go to 3.0 and then 3.0.1 (as documentation said)
or you may open support ticket to check with them internally if you have solution.
OK, but, I'm not sure how to downgrade to 2.8.3, I tried to downgrade to 2.8.3 from 2.8.4 by "upgrading" procedure using 2.8.3 bin file, but it doesn't work. I don't really know how to downgrade this 2.8.4 PAM to 2.8.3?
Just to follow up on this topic....
The original 3.0 upgrade.bin file only checked for version 2.8.3 because 2.8.4 was not available at the time the upgrade file was released as GA.
Since that time, a new 3.0 upgrade.bin file was posted to the CA Support site, and those that are on 2.8.4 can successfully upgrade to 3.0 as an intermediary step to get to 3.0.x (or 3.1 when that goes GA).
If you are seeing the 2.8.3 upgrade error message as described in the opening post, try to download the new CA PAM 3.0 Upgrade file from support.ca.com. The file name that you will need is: GEN06112144E.zip, and is roughly 70 MB in size.

The file I find is GEN500000000000774.zip, titled "PRIVILEGED ACCESS MANAGER MIGRATION PATCH R3.0.1” and found under downloads for product "CA Privileged Access Manager DEBIAN”, release 3.0.1. This zip archive includes file CAPAM_3.0.0.p.bin with a date of 11/17/2017, which will work for upgrades from 2.8.3 or 2.8.4 to 3.0 on the way to 3.0.1 or 3.0.2.
Thank you, this is very helpful.
just for the record:
the latest r3.0 upgrade patch is
and is superseding the earlier named upgrade patch files in this thread
