I am trying to eliminate wildcards from a task's search screen filter on the "onpaste" event ( we still want our users to be able to paste - AND want to prevent wildcards)

On a task's search screen - I want to 

1. Collect the pasted data

2. replace all wildcards by blank

3. put that data into the search filter value

all before the user clicks the search button. 

How can I achieve this? Is this even allowed on the search filter?

I am unaware of a way to modify the task search screen to omit use of wildcard or replace with blank.  The needs you detailed above may need a custom solution or if you would like to request Product Management review for new functionality you might consider opening a new Idea request (Idea tab in this community).  Thank you.
