  • 1.  How to link subfolders below to upper folders in Client Automation?

    Posted Jan 11, 2018 08:54 AM

    Hello,

How do I link subgroup to top group?

I need to link the lower subnets to the upper ones so that I can get the dsm reporter report by selecting the sublevel I want.

    Awaiting,

    Marco

Can you give an example how you want things to work ? It's not quite clear what you are trying to do.

I believe I understand what he wants to do, and there is a way to achieve what he wants (sort of), but I will only have time to respond in full a little later today.

For each level and sub-level, you need to make an ‘all-level’ group, with a query which includes members of all the sub-groups of that level. To illustrate:

    Group name

    Purpose

    Query

    •   Region 1

    Creates Hierarchy

    No query

    •   All Region 1

Contains all computers in the region

Member of group ‘Region 1 All Location 1’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 All Location 2’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 All Location 3’

    •   Region 1 Location 1

    Creates Hierarchy

    No Query

    •   Region 1 All Location 1

Contains all the computers in the location

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 1 Subnet 1’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 1 Subnet 2’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 1 Subnet 3’

    •   Region 1 Location 1 Subnets

    Creates Hierarchy

    No Query

    •   Region 1 Location 1 Subnet 1

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 Location 1 Subnet 2

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 Location 1 Subnet 3

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 All Location 2

Contains all the computers in the location

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 2 Subnet 1’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 2 Subnet 2’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 2 Subnet 3’

    •   Region 1 Location 1 Subnets

    Creates Hierarchy

    No Query

    •   Region 1 Location 2 Subnet 1

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 Location 2 Subnet 2

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 Location 2 Subnet 3

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 All Location 3

Contains all the computers in the location

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 3 Subnet 1’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 3 Subnet 2’

    OR

Member of group ‘Region 1 Location 3 Subnet 3’

    •   Region 1 Location 1 Subnets

    Creates Hierarchy

    No Query

    •   Region 1 Location 3 Subnet 1

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 Location 3 Subnet 2

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

    •   Region 1 Location 3 Subnet 3

Contains all computers in the subnet

    IP Address Like ?

Now, the subnet groups will be populated by IP address. The Location groups will be populated by the members of all of the subnet groups at that location. The region groups will be populated by the members of all the location groups for each region. You can now select any of the ‘All …..’ groups in the reporter to report by subnet, location or region. The static groups (no query) are only present to keep things neat by creating the hierarchy. You can’t use them for reporting since they contain only subgroups not members.

Is this what you were looking for?
