To automate the install and upgrade process, CA Spectrum should have the silent install option.

Install can be automated in the test environment and then deploy to production servers without application administrator working late at night on the upgrade.

Are you familiar with the distributed installation method ( Installing CA Spectrum in a Distributed Environment - CA Spectrum - 10.2 to 10.2.2 - CA Technologies Documentation )?  It works even with a single server but it allows you to configure two response files to install/upgrade Spectrum components on multiple systems using a single command.

    Thank you for your comment!

We tried to set up the upgrade via using Rundeck script. Which account is the Password file referring to, root or spectrum admin ID?

Rundeck will have root privilege to do the upgrade, however my team will not have root password to input to the Password file for the silent install on our Linux servers.

    Thanks!

Root password but if you don't include the password in the file, it will prompt you during the installation.  If you configure sudo ( SRAdmin Installation Methods - CA Spectrum - 10.2 to 10.2.2 - CA Technologies Documentation ), then you don't need the root password for the file and just use the sudo user password instead.

Our company policy doesn’t allow sudo set up or own the root password.

So we will not be able to execute your solution.

    Thanks!

    Dear all,

CA Spectrum install process is implemented using 2 components - the backend component which is running on the destination host (socalled Spectrum Remote Administration service / SRADmin) - and the frontend component which could be the GUI-tool or the cmd-line tool (sdic* / distinst*). The frontend tool will connect via TCP to the destination host enable session to the "SRAdmin"-service which is then applying the initial install or the upgrade to the existing install.

Using the cmd-line frontend tool will allow to do the very same and is full featured. This will allow to install and manage servicepack apply to a remote host when this host is "only accessible via network" - and is not able to provide a desktop / GUI-environment.

In practice this allows to make use of one (i.e. Windows workstation - running Win7 or 10) to do initial install on any remote host for a Spectrum base install. But - as said - you can also do the base-install fully batch-processed.

For initial install this clearly requires to have "SRAdmin"-service installed first - which is also possible per cmd-line/batch-install. See: SRAdmin Installation Methods - CA Spectrum - 10.2 to 10.2.2 - CA Technologies Documentation

    See also here:

Installing CA Spectrum in a Distributed Environment - CA Spectrum - 10.2 to 10.2.2 - CA Technologies Documentation - covering more info how to apply per batch to "full multi-host DSS install".
