  • 1.  Planning to upgrade from TDM 4.2 to 4.4

    Posted Mar 09, 2018 09:47 AM

    Hi,

we are planning to upgrade from TDM 4.2 to 4.4 version ,it was successful in one of our environment.

and now are we are planning to upgarde in another environment, My concern is, if the upgrade to 4.4 passes, and  if some of the features doesnot work as expected, can we able to revert back to 4.2 version later.

    We have the backups following

    GTREP database.

    TDM envrionment

    TDOD configuration backups

    Remote Publish configuration backups

The issue is, If we restore back the gtrep database, agreed the gtrep version will be 4.2 again.

But the software Data Maker and TDM portal, do we need to install the TDM version 4.2 to downgrade the application ? or how. Please let me know.

Also -- We ungraded directly to from 4.2 to 4.4, and skipped the version 4.3.

    Sunil,

The upgrade from 4.2 to 4.4 directly is supported. This is fine.

    As far as backing out...

With all of our software (just like with many other vendors), we recommend that it be tested before being attempted in production.

In addition, it's recommend that you follow basic "safe computing" and/or proper change control practices that include backups and/or snapshots.

For example: If the TDM server is on a VM and if the repo (database server) is local to the TDM serer, a snapshot is the quickest, easiest way to revert in case of problems.

There is no way to revert from a newer version to an older version from the software itself.

If you have any issues before, during or after the upgrade, feel free to open a support case accordingly.

    Regards,

    Sean

    Thanks Kiam.

In our case, we have two TDM servers, which is commonly connected to a single Repository server environment.

So, you mean to say, Its a good idea to take the snapshots of  both TDM servers and the snapshot of the repository which is in another environment before we do the upgradation.

Please suggest, if this is correct.

    Sunil

    Sunil,

Yes - you should perform whatever is reasonable to backup the existing environment. If that means snap-shotting the 2 VMs with TDM components and backing up the GTREP DB would be one example. If the GTREP exists on a shared DB server, taking the snapshot may be a bit extreme and cause performance issues.

commonly - so if you connect to any other repos outside of the "shared" one - you'll need to makes sure that you upgrade those repos as well. This is generally taking care of during the gtserver/datamaker upgrade:

Upgrade Product Components - CA Test Data Manager - 4.4 - CA Technologies Documentation

But you may need to run the db kit manually...

    Hi Kiam,

We are planning to upgrade ARD from 2.5 version to 2.7. We have the Concurrent user type license. Would it be feasible to upgrade to latest version 2.7. We have upgraded CA TDM to 4.4.
