    Hello Forum,

One of our ESP v11.4 user asked,

given the ESP pagemode commands PASSWORD DEFINE USER(dufus) TYPE(NT_JOB) PASSWORD(blahblah)  or PASSWORD UPDATE...

Where in ESP land do those passwords then get stashed?

Is there any way one can view them?  Recover them?

    thanks

Is there any way one can view them?

To see what is defined; PASSWORD LIST

    Recover them?

If password is not known you can delete then define with 'new' password

Hi Rick....we know about how to list out what is defined , the question is can one ascertain what the password itself was...ie is there some ESP file where these password VALUES are kept.

Entries are stored in the INDEX dataset.  This is a VSAM dataset.  While in theory you may be able to explore it or even manipulate it using the file manager, keep in mind that 1) passwords are encrypted at 2) This data set stores a lot of other vital information fro ESP, including calendars, Global variables, symbolics, etc.  I would suggest not messing with this unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Here is more information:

Hi Jonathan..........exactly what we were looking for.  The user was just looking for some assurances that after supplying the password to the operations folks to enter in pagemode that it then was not accessible after the fact ala being encrypted in the file.

    Thanks for your explanation.
