Jobs are submitted to various agents by the automation engines when all their dependencies have been met. The automation engine is constantly monitoring the system for work. So whether a job is manually executed, manually executed for a date / time in the future, is waiting on other processes to finish, waiting for a specific time dependency in a schedule, etc. the system is always monitoring for it and will send it to an agent to run if all the criteria is met.
The automation engine has multiple work processes and the architecture is such that the work will be submitted to the work process that is the least busy. So there's no way to tell / identify / predict which work process will process a specific job, it's all kind of random because of the work load balancing. At least that's how I understand it anyway.
