Restarting a stopped recurring scheduled job

I have several jobs that are scheduled to run at a recurring time every week.  I've done this through the recurring execution option when executing the job.  It appears in the activities window as an object type C_PERIOD.  A couple of times I've need to put this job on hold then restart it later than its scheduled time.  I've done this by stopping the job schedule (Activities window, right click, modify task, stop) then restarting it later through the same procedure but selecting "go" in the popup window.  What I've noticed is that the job does not run and it is automatically rescheduled for the next run time (for me, a week later at the same time).  I want to run the job now THEN have it run next week as scheduled.  Am I doing something wrong here?  Is there a different way to restart the stopped job or maybe I have a different option I should use when I initially setup the recurring job schedule?
