Please note that for the Database
and Database Server we would propose the following settings:
First of all the Distance between
the Autmic Database and Automic Server is very important:
The latency period when the Automic
Server accesses the Database should not be too high (ping response with 8k
packet size < 1ms).
The physical limit for the theoretical
distance between Automic Server and Database is the speed of light because a
signal can cover a max. of 200km/ms under optimal conditions (fiber optic cable
without optical loss).
This means that the distance for a
ping to a remote system with a response time of 1ms must not exceed 10 to 20km.
In practice, the question arises whether this distance can be bridged without
interconnected active components (repeaters) which depends on cable attenuation
and other things.
With attenuation being too high,
additional components would be required which can again increase the signal
propagation time. Runtime also increases if it becomes necessary to convert the
electrical signals to light waves.
And two answer your initial question,
no it is not mandatory but we would strongly suggest to separate the application
server and the db server due to high availability reasons.
