Hi Community!

Many users are increasingly using an RAC cluster for load balancing and have asked how to configure the a SQL Job correctly to use this environment.

The setup for this is actually on the SQL agent INI file. You can make the agent use the Oracle client instead of the JDBC:

useOraClient=

Connection method to Oracle databases.

Allowed values: "0" (default) and "1"

"0" - The agent can only connect to an Oracle Database Instance. The Job object contains the relevant connection data.
"1" - The agent can connect to Oracle RAC nodes. The Oracle file tnsnames.ora contains the relevant connection data.

The agent's connection information itself has to be defined by using Connection objects (e.g. in SQL variables). In the Connection object you would use Oracle or Oracle OCI as connection type.

Additionally in the CONN object you will:

This will be set up the same way as the stand alone db connection by selecting Oracle OCI from the DB type. You will need to ensure that the tnsnames.ora file on the server has an entry for RAC.

In the Database field they will need to put in the name for the entry in the tnsnames.ora file.

Lastly, the Server field is not required in this connection as it will source it from the tnsnames.ora

Hope this is helpful!
