Schedule usage instead of recurring workflows

Being fairly new to One Automation, I'm trying to understand the advantages of using schedules to run workflows rather than just setting up the workflows to run Recurring? Unless there's a specific reason it seems to me to just add another level in the hierarchy which doesn't include anything unique? Maybe I don't understand the correct intended use of the Schedule object! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
