Agent in different network area

I am installing a new Automic System in Production, we just start using Automic. The engine is running and there are no errors in the logfiles. The agent is installed on a different host, the network ip differs in the last two sections. So both IPs are 10.250.***.***. There is a firewall between the two network areas. Telnet on the CP-Ports works from the agent server to the engine, the firewall is opened bidirectional on all ports.
When starting the agent, the TCP/IP connection seems to work, but the agent does not show up in the Agents Overview in Client 0.
The Logs don't show any errors.
Log of the agent:
20170614/104659.422 - U02000072 Connection to system 'UC4' initiated.
20170614/104659.423 - U02000011 Connection to Server '<Hostname of Engine>.kvn.de:2217' initiated.
20170614/104659.423 - U02000011 Connection to Server '<Hostname of Engine>.kvn.de:2218' initiated.
20170614/104659.427 - U02000004 Connection to Server 'UC4#CP001' successfully created.
20170614/104659.428 - U02000075 CP Server 'UC4#CP001' has '1' client connections.
20170614/104659.428 - U02000004 Connection to Server 'UC4#CP002' successfully created.
20170614/104659.428 - U02000075 CP Server 'UC4#CP002' has '0' client connections.
-that's it.
On the engine server there are only these entries at startup-time of the agent in the CP-logs:
==> CPsrv_log_001_00.txt <==
20170614/104659.425 - U00003406 Client connection '31(10)'  from '<IP of Agentserver>:56736' has logged on to the Server.
==> CPsrv_log_002_00.txt <==
20170614/104659.425 - U00003406 Client connection '13(9)'  from '<IP of Agentserver>:58092' has logged on to the Server.

I configured an agent on the engine server itself and this agent works fine and the engine created an agent object in the system overview. The log of the local agent has a longer report:
20170614/105355.592 - U02000072 Connection to system 'UC4' initiated.
20170614/105355.593 - U02000011 Connection to Server '<Hostname of Engine>.kvn.de:2217' initiated.
20170614/105355.593 - U02000011 Connection to Server '<Hostname of Engine>.kvn.de:2218' initiated.
20170614/105355.595 - U02000004 Connection to Server 'UC4#CP001' successfully created.
20170614/105355.596 - U02000075 CP Server 'UC4#CP001' has '1' client connections.
20170614/105355.596 - U02000004 Connection to Server 'UC4#CP002' successfully created.
20170614/105355.596 - U02000075 CP Server 'UC4#CP002' has '1' client connections.
20170614/105355.596 - U02000076 Connection to CP Server 'UC4#CP002' is be closed.
20170614/105355.597 - U02000010 Connection to Server '<Hostname of Engine>.kvn.de:2218' terminated.
20170614/105355.597 - U02000073 Connection to system 'UC4' via CP Server 'UC4#CP001' successfully established.

Also, the keystore file for the agent on the agentserver has the size of 0 bytes.

Is there anything special we need to configure in the network? The network specialist doesn't want to use NAT IPs.
Or do we need to use the proxy process of automic, for which we have to buy extra licenses?
It is so unusual to position the agent and the engine in different network zones?

Thanks for any input and regards, Nicole
