This looks like a known issue with v12.1. Please open a incident with Automic support and let them know this appears to be related to PRB00214210.

Are you getting this error using the Web UI?

We're experiencing this as well, in the thick client, the web gui, we are able to save. This happens for any object.

Luckily, we didn't use the customization of the documentation tab. After removing the customization out of the UC_OBJECT_DOCU in client 0 (using the web ui) , the java client started to work correctly.

    Hi Rafael,

    How did you do that?

What are the step did you performed in client 0?

    Thanks

We are seeing this too, when trying to save an object to a v12.1 system using the v12.0.3 Java User Interface (JUI). Any time we try to do this, message U04001714 appears:
U04001714 The specified Documentation name _@Runbook contains an invalid character.
In the v12.1 system, the sub-tabs on the Documentation tab of a JOBP object look like this:
    feqdfntkqrp5.png

In a similarly configured v12.0.4 system, they look like this:
    vxr47gl8hg1e.png

The UC_OBJECT_DOCU VARA in client 0 looks like this in both systems:

    KeyValue 1
    *Docu,@Runbook
    VARADocu,@Runbook
    SYNCDocu,@Runbook
    SERVDocu,@Runbook
    SCRIDocu,@Runbook
    RESXDocu,@Runbook
    CALEDocu,@Runbook
    CALLDocu,@Runbook
    CODEDocu,@Runbook
    CPITDocu,@Runbook
    DOCUDocu,@Runbook
    EVNTDocu,@Runbook
    JOBFDocu,@Runbook
    JOBGDocu,@Runbook
    JOBIDocu,@Runbook
    JOBPDocu,@Runbook
    JOBSDocu,@Runbook
    JSCHDocu,@Runbook,@RunInfo

Any ideas? Is there are fix for PRB00214210, or at least a workaround? We know that removing all structured documentation tabs fixes the problem, but that’s not really an option. Similarly, switching everyone over to the AWI is not yet possible.

We opened an incident about this bug. Automic replied that they will not fix it. The only option is to use the AWI.

    Problem description
When trying to save an object in the Java User Interface with AE version 12.1 or later, an error like this appears:
U04001714 the specified documentation name _@Operation contains an invalid character

    Root cause
If any structured documentation tabs are defined for an object type in UC_OBJECT_DOCU, objects of that type will be affected by this bug. It will not be possible to use the JUI to save changes to objects of that type. Structured documentation tabs are ones whose names begin with the @ character. Object types with only documentation tabs defined (ones whose names do not begin with the @ character) are not impacted. In the above example, Operation is the name of a structured documentation tab.

    Background
Starting with version 12.1, The Automic Web Interface (AWI) replaced the Java User Interface (JUI) as the standard user interface to the Automation Engine. The JUI was deprecated. As a result, Automic stopped updating the JUI, and stopped testing new versions of the AE with the old JUI. As a result, changes that break JUI capabilities began to creep into the Automation Engine code. This is one of them.
