  • 1.  Some Kanban Questions

Since there are no iterations, do we set the iteration date from the time that we start using the Kanban board to the end of the year?

If you are using a simple board - backlog, defined, in progress, completed and accepted -  does only "in progress"  need a WIP?

Cards are not sized - correct?

Do we add tasks and estimate them in hours?

    Any best practices to share?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Kathy,

I don't have all the answers, but here are a couple of links to help you and your team.

Kanban Explained | CA Agile Central Help

Flow-Based Planning | CA Agile Central Help

CA Agile How To: The Difference Between Kanban and Scrum - YouTube

    In summary:

    • Kanban does not rely on or use timeboxes, so there is no need to set the Iteration at all.
    • All the columns should have a WIP limit.  However, since the team owns the processes, this can be decided by your team.  Whatever works the best for them to get the work out the door.
    • Cards are not sized and there are no Tasks or Task Estimates in Kanban.  Only prioritized work in the queue to be pulled in.

Hope that helps get your team started!
