Domain Install - The instance name contains unsupported characters or exceeds the maximum allowed length

  • 1.  Domain Install - The instance name contains unsupported characters or exceeds the maximum allowed length

WinOffline was inadvertently executed on the server.

Uses a Remote database and it was not touched.

    Reinstalling Domain.

The install fails after pressing Next in the Configure Microsoft SQL Server MDB.

    The message is:

The instance name contains unsupported characters or exceeds

the maximum allowed length. Please provide a different database instance.

I can connect with the Datasources (ODBC) utility.

The database was accessible from the same machine on the same server.

    What am I missing?

    Please advise,

    Jeff

Jeff-- recommend you get a support case opened, and we jump on a WebEx for this.  Often times the messages returned by the installer are misleading to the actual problem.  We'll probably need to check out the logs in %temp%.  So in the least maybe open a case and attach a ZIP of %temp%, otherwise let's do a WebEx...
