Spectroserver alarms loss after restart SS

  • 1.  Spectroserver alarms loss after restart SS

    HI,

     

    It's two times on two different SS that I lose all alarms (Alarms, Trouble Ticket and Onwer) when I restart the SS.

     

    I don't understand why these alarms disappear.
    Can you help me understand please?

    What version of Spectrum? Are you reloading a database?

    Do you have a secondary SpectroSERVER?  If so, the alarms should sync.  There is debug you can enable if you do, let us know.  If you don't, then you shouldn't lose the alarms unless you are initializing and reloading a db as Joe noted.

    Even if you are not running a secondary SS,  I believe the alarm information should be preserved on an SS restart IF the alarm is configured to be Persistent.

    Yeah, it should.  I was more asking because we could enable debug a little easier if there's a secondary

    Hi

    We have seen something similar as a result of upgrade/patch installs (10.2.3) recently where alarm persistence is not maintained after the SS restart. I have a case open with CA and they seem to be aware of an issue, so I would suggest you do the same.

    Oh, interesting.  I haven't heard this yet but I've also been out of the office.    Do you mind sharing the ticket number?  I can't seem to find it in the system.

    Thank you.  The notes indicate it happened on an upgrade...Does the issue happen on SS restart as well?

    We've only noticed it when we upgrade or patch, so I can't say for certain if it happens on SS restart. If we need to restart at some point I will let you know and also update the ticket.

    Although my reading of the ticket is that support are aware of this or similar issues... can you confirm that please?

    Hi,

     

    My Spectrum version is "10.1.0.0.237 02/20/2016 10:19". I don't have a secondary SpectroServer (I know it's no good !).

     

    I lost all my alarms. They are persistent. I didn't reload BDD.

     

    I was told that it was possible that the alarm files (ssAlarms.ix and ssAlarms.db) were corrupted.

     

    When the SS restart then it resets the alarms because the files are corrupted.

    btw, the only time the alarm files are reset is when you initialize, not on restart.

    It appears this is seen across all R10 flavours and with "different symptoms". 

    Migration - then all alarms are affected. FT-switching - then "many alarms" are affected. 

    Hopefully this forum will help to retrieve as much as  possible info to get a better (and important) focus on that.

    I would encourage everybody reading this to add in his experience for "recreated alarms" even the very same alarm already exists. Due to this the new alarm will clearly NOT cover the initial alarms updates (ie ACK, Troubleshooter .. ticket etc ...).
