How do we set up and track a Portfolio (which tracks progress based on stories) when not all the stories are defined up front? Is there a way to track Themes/Epics against Feature progress instead of Story progress?

For CA Agile Central (fka: Rally)

All the Portfolio Tracking tools seem to track only at the Story level (% Done). Is there a way to track higher order items (Epics/Themes) against Feature progress instead? We tend to discover our stories as we go along, but we have our 'features' somewhat better known (at a rough granularity). What is the best practice to hydrate a meaningful portfolio that we can track, without doing upfront planning or creating tons of 'placeholder' stories.

    Hi Alexis,

The Plan Progression View should help. Can you check it out:

If not helping, please let us know more specifics.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

We had a similar need and did not find a perfect solution for our On Prem account.  We ended up creating the feature, and using template user stories to manage each phase of the feature.  It is still a manual process to move the template user stories through each phase, but because they are templates, its a great reminder of what needs to be done at each phase and how it went.
