  • 1.  Device accidently removed, how to recover?

We had a bunch of devices in USM in the Inventory group that had duplicates appearing, so we selected a bunch  that showed up as devices with the same name as Host's, so we have been selecting the devices and clicking "delete selected" under Actions drop down.  And leaving the defaults  checked off , prevent re-discovery, acknowledge alarms, and delete measurements. This gets rid of the duplicates in USM.  The problem is, that a production system that was a host was selected in a group of selected devices during a routine cleanup and deleted.  How do we recover this device? The device shows up in IM, but does not show up anywhere in UMP or USM.

    TIA

I think it will be in the list of devices to "prevent rediscovery” which is just a csv file on the primary hub in the discovery server folder.

    <your_install>\Nimsoft\probes\service\discovery_server\excluded_devices.csv

You could try to remove the server you want back in this file and probably restart discovery_server as well.

Might take a few cycles to come back….so go for a cuppa

Never tried this so take a backup of the file just in case.

    Thanks That worked.

Agree with the "take a backup first" comment.

I have done this process of removing one line and it does work. Do have a care to use an editor that will not change line endings or reformat. vi/Notepad/Notepad++ would be the short list of options.

If you're not keen on directly editing the file, the Web page has an "allow discovery of all in the prevent list" option which I think just deletes this file and restarts discovery server.

    Thank you Garin.

There is discovery_server callback "clear_all_prevented_devices" which removes excluded_devices.csv
