  • 1.  Access rights for Home Menu Sections

    Hello All,

Very quick question, I created a section in Application menu (home). that section holds advance reporting link and must be visible to only few users or say a group. is there a way we can restrict a section of home menu to specific group. What is the way to grant or remove rights in Home menu Section in CA PPM.

    Thanks

The rights in clarity either give you access to a functionality or data (view or edit) or both.

The global rights related to reporting are

Advanced Reporting - Ad Hoc Create
    Advanced Reporting - Administer
    Advanced Reporting - Dashboard Create
Advanced Reporting - Data Source Create
    Advanced Reporting - Domain Create
    Advanced Reporting - Navigate
    Advanced Reporting - Report Create
    Reports - Access
    Reports - Run - All
Reports - View Output - All
Reports and Jobs - Administrator Access
Reports and Jobs - Create Definition
Reports and Jobs - Edit Definition - All

The rights are not menu dependent so it does not matter where in the menu the subject of a right is.

In your case it is likely to be Advanced Reporting  - Navigate and maybe also Reports - Access.

Note that if you have Advanced reporting elsewhere in the menu the same rights apply to that and your custom menu item.

Then you would limit the data that can be accessed with instance rights.

However, with reports and specifically Advanced reporting you are out of luck.

The report related instance rights  are

Project - Create - Status Report
Project - Edit All - Status Report
Project - View All - Status Report
    Report - Run
    Report - View Output
Reports and Jobs - Edit Definition

    Nothing related to advanced reporting.

The link you create in the Application Menu is typically tied to a 'Page' definition

You can grant instance or OBS rights associated with Pages and thus you can control page access in this manner.

So you would put your advance reporting link on an HTML portlet on a page and give the rights to the page and portlet to the users or groups you want to.

However as said before as long as you have Advance Reporting menu item in the personal group any user that has Advanced Reporting - Navigate can navigate the reports and the arrangement with the link in another menu group has no benefit.

Thanks for the suggestions, What i did to achieve this is Created a Section in Home menu and updated Advance Reporting Link to That section, and provided rights to those who wants it.
