    Hi All,

We are monitoring oracle 11g and 12c databases.

    Need a clarification on below.

We are monitoring 12c Databases with container DB connection. But, our DB team is concerning on this as "Contention monitoring should be on PDB as all SQL will be running on that".

Do we need to monitor using container DB connection or pluggable DB connection? Please confirm.

    Thank you.

    Hi Rajashekar,

I agree with your DBAs.  Monitor the PDB / pluggable database.

This should be an easy change.  You can modify the connections on the probe, specifically the Service Name, using the PDB service name.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Shawn

Thank you Shawn. But, as per the oracle probe documentation, we can use either CDB or PDB to monitor the databases having the right access granted to the account which we are using for DB monitoring.

What is the difference when we enable monitoring through pluggable connection?

    Thank you.

    Hi Rajashekar,

Your DBA may have different Resource Plans for each PDB.   So, it makes more sense to monitor at the PDB level.

Also, your applications will be using the PDB, not the CDB.

You can also monitor the CDB if your DBA feels that is worthwhile.

You are right about needing different accounts for PDB vs. CDB.

    Thanks,

    Shawn

Thank you Shawn for clarifying this. I will work with DBA further on this.

    Thank you.
