I am trying to accomplish changing a job's agent when it is in failed state before attempting a rerun. However, only passing Rununit to the job through ESPmgr is not modifying anything.

Are ALL the job variables needed everytime for RESETJOB ? That would be a challenge.

Command I am using on the agent (Other ESPmgr command like RESUB etc work so its not an issue with the service id) - 

ESPmgr "JOBNAME/APPL.GEN/MAIN ACTION RESETJOB Rununit(AGENTNAME)"

Yes, the RESETJOB will need all of the job definition.  It is basically rewriting the job again.
