If one can confirm that Burndown charts will only be updated once a task is shown as completed. 

I am also having trouble displaying data on the Iteration Burnup charts- Tasks are assigned to individuals, stories are assigned to projects, iterations are current and in place. Am I missing something?

The burnup and burndown charts reflect accepted work, ie. accepted points from user stories and defects.  The burnup chart has 2 data sets, one is the total points for the iteration (work to be done in black) and the accepted points (user stories and defects) in green. Tasks are 'owned' by individuals but are assigned or associated to stories and defects.  Task estimates are not reflected in the iteration charts.
