  • 1.  Can we have different installation directory for SS in DSS environment

    Posted Jan 02, 2019 05:47 AM

    Hi,

In our current Spectrum setup, we have SS installed in root partition. We are in planning to add a new SpectroServer to the existing setup but due to less space in the root partition, we are thinking to use another partition (opt/CA ) for the installation.

Does this is supportable, to have different installation directories across spectroservers in DSS environment ?

Please share your thoughts on this.

    Thanks,

    Bijender

    Bijender,

There is no requirement to have Spectrum installed in the same directory on all SpectroSERVER systems in the DSS environment. It is only recommended to make administration across the DSS easier.

You could also move the existing Spectrum installations out of the root partition - provided the new directory is the same as the old one.

For example, if the install is currently located in /opt/CA, then:

    1. Shutdown Spectrum (completely, including processd)
    2. Move /opt/CA to something else
    3. Create a new LVM volume for /opt/CA and mount it (obviously this will be non-root)
    4. Move the entire directory back into place
    5. Start Spectrum back up again

The usual caveats apply - do this at your own risk, etc. However, it will work and means that you don't end up filling your root partition with junk (log files, old reports, big databases, backups, etc.) and lock yourself out of the box.

I should also add that this is applicable to a Linux install of Spectrum. For Windows it might be a little more tricky...
