Hey Paul, our version of planning poker is the Estimation Board app which is available in the App catalog.  It allows you to assign point values to Sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) with a column for No Estimate.  The team can then discuss which column it should be moved to.

    Thanks,

    Edwin

We have tried the Estimation boards but they are not quite Planning poker; Planning poker works because it address two major group dynamic issues when estimating as a team:

    1. Cognitive Bias: There is scientific evidence demonstrating that in their estimates, people tend to gravitate towards the number they’ve been exposed to before the estimation started. This happens even if the number is totally random or incongruous. So, whenever you involve more people in an estimation process, you do not want them to know each other’s estimates lest they get "anchored".
    2. Authority Bias: Another reason for anonymous estimation is that participants tend go along with the most authoritative opinion in the room. We need to avoid this in Agile teams.

Using the Estimation board does not preclude the use of poker cards to eliminate Cognitive or Authority Bias.  The Estimation Board can be used to reflect the final tally once everyone has casted their (private) votes.
