  • 1.  Compatibility matrix  of 14.0 SP2 and 12.8

    Hi Team,

    We are upgrading our environment to 14.0 SP2 from 12.8. Now , The problem is there are windows 2003 servers around 1500 servers where we cannot upgrade t 14.0 SP2. These machines are used for CA Remote control. Hence, decided not to upgrade to 14.0 SP2.

     

    Will there be any compatibility version issue between 2003 servers (12.8) and Domain managers (14.0 SP2) . Does it impact CA Remote control on Windows 2003 servers.

    No need to upgrade your 12.8 agents on Srv2003 to 14.0sp2.   12.8 agent connected to 14.0sp2 domain will work fine including Remote Control.  Srv2003 does support 12.9, so you could upgrade those agents to 12.9 if wanted to be on last supported version.

     

    What may get tricky is using agent auto upgrade feature in 14.0sp2.  If you use that feature one approach create a upgrade settings configuration policy linked to dynamic groups of which OS are permitted to auto upgrade.   Your XP/Srv2003 OS wouldn't want to target with an auto upgrade.

     

    Ran into similar situation when we upgraded from 12.5SP1 to 12.9 with XP agents.     XP only supports up to 12.8, but we skipped 12.8 for 12.9 and let our XP agents on 12.5SP1 agents with 12.9 Domain, now at 14.0SP2 XP/2003 legacy agents still ok.

    Really Appreciate your help on this.

    Does Windows server 2003 supports 12.9 Agent ? Earlier this was not supported.Since when CA Supporting server 2003 with 12.9 Agent ?

    According to Compatibility Matrix 2003 supports 12.9.   

     

    CA Client Automation - Agent Compatibility Matrix - CA Technologies 

     

    If you don't have 12.9 media downloaded, may have to open ticket with support to obtain.   After have media can use dsmpush.dms to import the 12.9 agents in IDW or SD.

    CA dropped support for 12.9 10/2018.   So whether you are on 12.8 or 12.9 agents on the 2003 OS, in an unsupported scenario.

    Hi,

     

    I have upgraded my Dev instance to 14.0 SP2 . Now where do we see the Auto upgrade policy in Configuration policy ?

     

    And I could see Content import client is not upgraded to 14.0 SP2. Is it expected to be on the same version like below.

     

     

    Any help would really appreciate.

    2 areas.  


    1. Default Computer Policy\DSM\Software Delivery\Agent
    Agent Auto Upgrade

     

    2. Default Computer Policy\DSM\Software Delivery\Scalability Server
    Agent Auto Upgrade: Enable auto upgrade mode
    Agent Auto Upgrade: Agent versions allowed for upgrade
    Agent Auto Upgrade: Auto upgrade retry count
    Agent Auto Upgrade: Enable auto upgrade retry
    Agent Auto Upgrade: Package missing Action

     

    Check out CA's KB000012553 which details Auto Upgrade featues.   If you have 14.0SP1 agents (14.0.1000.194) may need to edit version info to add that version.  I recall that that version may be missing from 14.0SP2 settings.
