    Have you tried the Jaspersoft Community/documentation? 

     

    Just having a search around brings up a few threads . . . but it seems like it is related to what you are trying to do.

    The Jaspersoft Studio Help also has good information on counting.  Navigate to "Jaspersoft Studio Documentation / Tutorials / Report Structure / Variables and Expressions / The variables in Jaspersoft Studio".
