  • 1.  How to support monetization of APIs with CA APIM

We are using CA API Gateway v9.3 with API Portal v4.2. I understand that with the earlier version of portal (v3.5) Monetization was an inbuilt feature where we could integrate with an external billing engine such as Recurly and generate invoices.

However this functionality does not seem to exist from v4.0 onwards. In this scenario, if we are looking to monetize our APIs could you please let us know what are the approaches we could make use of ?  e.g. Capture the usage analytics from the database and feed it into an external billing system ?

Please let me know what options we can make use of at the moment.

    Hi jkmurthy

As far as API Portal 4.2.9.2, this is not supported.

If analytics is configured, you can use Metrics API from Portal to collect the data and use it as input to an external system.

Thanks danle01 for the response. Do you think this is a common approach that many organizations would be taking or would you know if CA has plans to provide monetization capabilities out of the box ?  Because, even if we expose the metrics and derive the usage related data, it would be essential for the Developers to know upfront the pricing associated with various plans that are offered. Would we be needing a custom CMS to achieve such a thing ?
