  • 1.  IBM Java support for RHEL

    Hi,

     

    I have a requirement to monitor an application deployed in websphere 8.5.5 in RHEL 6 and using IBM java 7.

    The compatibility guide doesnt show IBM java for RHEL.

     

    Does it means its not compatible and cannot monitor this app? I use apm 10.2.

     

    Can i use AgentNoRedefNoRetrans.jar and IntroscopeAgent.NoRedef.profile?

    that means it hasn't been tested or supported. So it may work . But it is something that is not supported . So you are on your own or maybe someone in this friendly community can help.

    I just received notification from the certification team:

     

    IBM WebSphere Application Server is only supported with IBM JAVA. But somehow in https://pcm.ca.com it is displaying java as Oracle Java , it should be IBM JAVA . PCM will be modified to reflect IBM Java.

     

    So below combination IS a supported combination.

    APM 10.2 Java Agent

    RHEL 6.1

    IBM Java 7.0.10.15

    WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.13

    Just to add this - I have many agents running in this combination, some on RHEL, some on AIX, with WebSphere 8.5.x and Java 1.7.x and 1.8.x 

     

    Generally from personal experience I would use AgentNoRedefNoRetrans.jar and IntroscopeAgent.NoRedef.profile , I had success with the regular files in WebSphere 7.0 versions and Java 1.6 but when we moved to WebSphere 8.5.5 and Java 1.7 (or 1.8) there was some java native heap issues using the Agent.jar and IntroscopeAgent.profile that vanished as soon as we went to the NoRedef versions and have been stable since then.

     

    Going to those uses the "-typical" pbd's - If you are wanting to monitor anything that is coming from the "-full" ones (or previously were in dashboards etc) , you may need to take a look at some of the settings in the pbd files.
