Scheduling a Sub Object 'snapshot'

Hi all.
I have a need to capture certain data elements on an object at a scheduled time. We would like the results of this to be available in the Clarity UI and easily 'expandable' in the future, so we'd really like to use a sub object instead of building a little datamart. We think a 'read only' sub object that we can somehow schedule from the admin side to 'create new' based upon a set of business rules at a set time would be a pretty slick solution to this problem.
Has anyone implemented similar functionality? If so, how? Clarity doesn't have a public API, in most applications this is what one would do. Is there a non public API solution? Gel? Stored Procedure? Process?

All ideas are appreciated.
