Best Practices: tracking Actuals vs Allocations for completed work

Hello all, another Best Practices question here:

We have created a custom portlet which allows us to view allocations and actuals in a histogram for all investments. This has provided very important data for our IT PMO in tracking our performance and forecast accuracy. However we have discovered one issue with the data: When a piece of work is completed (or cancelled) we make the investment Inactive in Clarity. We have found that an unintended consequence to this is that all allocations and actuals can no longer be viewed for inactive investments. Is there any way to change this behaviour? We are considering changing our process so that closed or cancelled investments do not become inactive, but this means they will still appear in everyone's screens and filters by default, and we'd have to instruct everyone to filter them out. Any suggested alternatives are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
