Naming Standards

One often overlooked APM best practice is that of naming standards. This can provide the following advantages:
- Makes it easier to find the correct business service or Introscope Management Module element (such as dashboards and alerts) in the
APM Customer Experience Console, Introscope Investigator, and other locations.
- Provides maximum detail in the smallest amount of space describing the application, environment, transaction, and other information.
- Used in sorting fields.
- Offers a consistent look to your application components.
- Helps show the different steps in a transaction.


So to start the discussion rolling
- Does your APM Environment have naming standards?
- If not, are you planning to have naming standards?
- If not why?
- What are the drawbacks of naming standards?
- How often are these updated?
- What are the ways that naming standards help make your life easier in performing APM administration?
- What enhancements would you like to see to make naming standards easier (e.g. width of fields)?
