I would like to see an article on issues with migrating to IDMS 16 SP1.

Fw: Connections
"
Hello to you all.

The IUA Board has decided to make the issues of Connections more focused on
technical issues and to this end, we are working to build an issue on the
topic:

Application Integration & the Web

With suggested article subjects:

§ Integration Design
§ TCP/IP
§ MQ Series
§ ODBC/JDBC
§ EDI
§ XML
§ Working with Oracle
§ Future Directions
§ “Webifying”
§ “GUI-fication”

However these are just suggestions and any related topic will be gratefully
received. If you wish to contribute something, please tell us when you
think you could have it - unless of course you feel you have something to
hand that would meet the need, in which case please just send it. All
articles will be attributed or not as you request.

We would hope to be able to construct the issue by the end of February.

Best regards,

Re: System Owned Indexes
"Here is my rule of thumb.
1. Unless there are compelling reasons not to - always rebuild from index.
2. If somebody by accident destroyed the index area, use rebuild from
members.

I am putting together a project to rebuild all 100 of the CAS system-owned
indexes and was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question: is
there any downside to doing the rebuild 'from index' for sets that are
defined as <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns =
""urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"" />OM, OA, or MM. There are no
changes being made - just a rebuild to clean things up. Normally I would do
'from members' for any set that is not MA but that always takes more time.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = ""urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office""
/>

Re: Release 16.0 in PRODUCTION
"1) We are planning to have Rel 16.0 SP(1) in production before Easter -
Release 16.0 has been in active use by applications Developers since
returning in the New Year.

2) We have been using the Release 16.0 TCP/IP line driver for several months
now - it works a treat! The ""generic listener"" is great - if you've ever
written your own listener you'd realise how much complexity is resolved for
you - it lets you write much simpler server type application programs. We
have been experimenting with using XML and SOAP between mid-range and
mainframe environments, and XML only between mainframe environments across
TCP/IP. There's a gotcha when you use the Cobol XMLPARSE verb though - you
will need a very large XA Reentrant Pool so that you can load CEEEV003 (it
would not fit into our 5000K pool that we had defined in our DBA Research
environment - this resulted in an S0C4 which took a fair while to solve).
But this worked fine in other environments which happened to have the larger
pool size already.

3) We have been using the SQL option and CA-Server for IDMS from Java for
about a year now - first in a Proof of Concept situation using Release 15.0,
then after deciding to get the add ins while planning how we intend to use
the products. We have been using Rel 16.0 SP(1) for this since shortly after
the SP became available.

HTH - cheers - Gary
