IDMS R 14.0 and 16.0 - Oracle 9.2.0.6 J2EE Connection Products

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Feb 24, 2005
Hi;

We are evaluating IDMS - Oracle with a J2EE using WebLogic connection
products and would appreciate any product suggestions.

We need :

1. To be able to listen for any changes (store, modify, delete) in
IDMS R 14.0 (soon to be R 16.0)

2. Through rules, transform, and format these changes (insert, update,
delete) for Oracle

3. Store the corresponding changes in Oracle (rels. 9.2.0.6)

And do the reverse: listening, mapping and transforming the Oracle 9.2.0.6
changes back to IDMS R14.0 now (going to R16.0 soon).

We also looked at iway Intelligent Adapter for CA-IDMS.
We looked at Neon Shadow and it doesn't appear to be able to do
2-phase commit.
We are looking at simulating 2-phase commit in WebLogic.
We heard about, but have not looked at Informatica ?Power Center.
We heard about, but have not looked at ?EDBC from Computer Associates.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Ted Wells

P.S. How well does CA support 2-phase commit against Oracle R 9.2.0.6 with
IDMS R14.0? IDMS R16.0?

Re: Adding owner pointer into existing set
"I actually went thru this process of adding owner pointers to existing
sets not long ago. You do not need a program to disconnect & reconnect
the set members. You first restructure the database to add the owner
pointers with RESTRUCTURE SEGMENT with the old subschema. You must then
use RESTRUCTURE CONNECT with a subschema that matches the new
definition. The spill file is only used when you're adding prior
pointers to an existing set.

Good luck,

program to disconnect & reconnect the set members to populate those set
owner pointers?

Hartmut ,

Only thought is that since the set is optional then there are no
connected members so no spill file entries.

Has anyone used the restructure connect utility to add new owner pointer
into an existing set?
I tried to use the restructure utility to get a spill file with the new
pointers, but after completion the file is empty. The set is defined as
optional automatic and has only next and prior pointers.

Any idea?

Another Conversion ... IDMS 14.1 to 16.0
"We also are doing the planning for a 14.1 to 16.0 conversion - light SQL,
heavy CAS and very heavy CASDATA.

OK, OK - so who among us still running 14.1 are NOT contemplating this
project? (I seem to remember asking the same thing when moving from 12.0 to
14.1...... Hmmm..... Day job view all over again?)

If you are willing to share any experiences, particularly in the application
area, you may email the board or you can email me directly. We certainly
will be willing to share ours with others as we progress.

I'm hoping to get through this project without the necessity of a religious
conversion and I don't want to wind up with just a big heap of Uncle Ben's
converted rice, either.
