Re: Missing ERROR-STATUS Elements
"one thing that I have always done is to run a report of all messages, modules &
records in each dictionary, and sort by last update date. for any entity
updated more recently than the last install, i compare those to the objects in
DLODPROT and any other souce membwe used to update the dictionary. where there
is a match, I punch off the existing version, update the dictionary with CA-
supplied source, and then re-apply the in-house changes where appropriate. for
us, 99% of this relates to change the severity of system messages.

Missing ERROR-STATUS Elements
"Hello Don:

The elements that you are referring to are not standard IDMS elements.

The SUBSCHEMA-CTRL is a record and not a module. One of the elements that
reside in the SUBSCHEMA-CTRL record is ERROR-STATUS. SUBSCHEMA-CONTROL is a
compiler directive that tells the preprocessor to copy in certain features
depending on the programming language.

When you upgraded the dictionary it upgrades all of the Protocols for IDMS
in a job step called DLODPROT.

You updated the record SUBSCHEMA-CTRL with the default supplied by IDMS,
when you did this you overlaid any user defined modifications to the record
element ERROR-STATUS that is an element of the SUBSCHEMA-CTRL record.

Not to worry, if you do a display all elements where name contains
'error-status' your companies modifications to the ERROR-STATUS element will still be
in the dictionary with a specific version number.

All you have to do is modify the SUBSCHEMA-CTRL record and replace the
ERROR-STATUS record element with your modified version that contains the elements
ERROR-STATUS-MAJOR and ERROR-STATUS-MINOR.

Be careful, there are many Subschema-Ctrl records in the dictionary, you
want to make sure that you are modifying the correct version for the language of
the program that you are compiling.

IDMS_L: SUBSCHEMA-CTRL missing redefine ERROR-STATUS-MAJOR
"I am upgrading to 15.0 sp6 from 14.0.

When compiling cobol programs,
we are getting cobol compile errors,
missing element ""ERROR-STATUS-MAJOR"" & ""ERROR-STATUS-MINOR""

IGYPS2121-S ""ERROR-STATUS-MAJOR"" was not defined as a data-name.
IGYPS2121-S ""ERROR-STATUS-MINOR"" was not defined as a data-name.

in COPY IDMS SUBSCHEMA-CONTROL
under ""01 SUBSCHEMA-CTRL""

is this a mod or option I am missing?

the dictionary does not have a module ""SUBSCHEMA-CONTROL""

Re: temp tapes dropped after 1st close on reload ?????
"Question your MVS sysprog about your default SORT utility. Did you
recently switch between DFSORT and Syncsort or vice versa? Have they
changed any ICEMAC or SYNCMAC options?

Or it could be that CA-IDMS is clobbering the JFCB and/or changing the
Free option to CLOSE. From Quick Ref:

Relationship to the CLOSE Macro Instruction

When FREE=CLOSE is specified for a data set that is opened and closed
more than once during a job step:

- The data set is unallocated after it is closed if the assembler
CLOSE macro instruction specifies DISP, REWIND, or FREE. If the
data set is reopened after the system has unallocated it, the job
step abnormally terminates, unless the data set is dynamically
allocated in the interval.

The data set is not unallocated until the end of the job if the
assembler CLOSE macro instruction specifies LEAVE or REREAD. Then the
data set can be reopened.

A obvious workaround of course is to catalog the work files and then
delete them in another step.

Just my two cents...
